Fleetwood’s Shaun Rooney Held Back From 4th Official After Raging at Red Card!

One of the many stories to come out of Saturday’s Carabao Cup game between Fleetwood and Blackburn is that of former Manchester United midfielder Shaun Rooney. During the game, the raging ex-England captain went on a rant at the fourth official and was held back by the match officials. Then, as a result of the tirade, he received a red card and was sent off. It seems that this wasn’t the only time in recent memory that the former England striker has been on the receiving end of some serious abuse.

Mo Besic sent off during Middlesbrough’s 1-1 draw with Blackburn

After a disappointing defeat to Aston Villa, Middlesbrough had a chance to get back on track against Blackburn. Unfortunately, the match ended in a draw. It wasn’t a bad performance, but they still lost ground on their rivals.

Boro started the game in fine style. They had the ball in the net in the opening few minutes and had a good spell in the first half. But they struggled to find that all important goal.

The other notable feat was the first time they have scored an away goal in the Championship. Britt Assombolonga did not do a bad job of putting the ball in the back of the net.

However, the most impressive piece of kit was the free kick that Blackburn won. The free kick was a beauty and curled home past Darren Randolph.

Despite being outclassed for most of the match, the Teessiders stayed on top for a fair few minutes. In fact, Boro poured forward once they were on the pitch.

Neil Lennon sent off during Cypriot Cup final

The Cypriot Cup final ended in controversy when Neil Lennon was sent off for a foul-mouthed tirade. He was fined by the Cypriot FA for ill-discipline and is set to receive a long touchline ban.

It’s a shame that the manager has been sent off for his verbal assault on the match official. It could overshadow his achievement. However, he rekindled the spirit in the dressing room after the game, guiding his team to silverware.

Lennon was appointed to take charge of Omonia Nicosia in March and has since guided the club to their first Cypriot cup victory in nearly a decade. This also meant that his team earned a place in the Europa League next season. His side has only lost once in the league since Lennon’s arrival.

In the Cypriot Cup final, Omonia Nicosia defeated Ethnikos Achnas on penalty kicks. However, the former Celtic manager was sent off in extra time after a foul-mouthed tirade. A yellow card had been issued earlier for dissent, but it wasn’t until the end of extra time that the red card was issued.

Shaun Rooney hurled abuse at the fourth official

If you were a Fleetwood fan you’d have seen their latest win over a spirited Sheffield Wednesday and been impressed by the scoreline, albeit a tame one at that. The team is currently in 16th place in England’s third tier. A first half goal from George Byers and an equally as impressive second half performance from Marvin Johnson were enough to give the visitors the three points of honour they deserved. The oh so sour grapes jubilee was tempered by a solitary red card and a late renaissance snatching in the closing minutes, which could have easily been avoided.

Despite the aforementioned snatching, the game was a scoreless draw until a marauding Marvin Johnson rounded off the scoring. Rooney did his best to get back into the game, but there was only so much his team could do against the onslaught. Despite the deficit the team had to be thankful to have a resolute and receptive backroom staff.

Fleetwood reach second round of the Carabao Cup

If Everton are to progress into the Carabao Cup’s third round, they will face Fleetwood Town in their first competitive match. The two sides will face off in the week commencing August 22.

Fleetwood Town beat Wigan Athletic 1-0 in their Carabao Cup first round tie. Ged Garner scored after just 24 minutes with a header from close range. Despite a late scare from striker Stephen Humphrys, the Cod Army came through.

Having spent most of their history in lower leagues, Fleetwood have now risen up to League One. Their current manager is former Celtic star Scott Brown. They have not made it past the quarter-final stage since the 2015/16 season.

Although they haven’t progressed to the quarter-finals in 2016, they have qualified for the play-offs for the first time in their history. This is thanks to Everton, who have led them to the Carabao Cup stage.

Shaun Rooney in Fleetwood Explosion as Scott Brown becomes Manager

The rumours of Shaun Rooney leaving St Johnstone are confirmed, after the former right back joined Fleetwood Town in a two year deal. He previously played for Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Queen’s Park, York City and Dunfermline Athletic.

Scott Brown, the former Celtic captain, has become the new manager of League One side Fleetwood. As well as being a Celtic legend, he is also a former St Johnstone player. After earning 22 major honours at Parkhead, he has now turned his attention to building a successful club in the English League One.

Former St Johnstone hero Shaun Rooney has signed a two-year deal to join Fleetwood Town. He left the Scottish Premiership club after helping it survive in the league last season, and scored the winning goal in the play-offs against Inverness. Before he joined Fleetwood, he had already scored in the Scottish Cup and Premier Sports Cup finals.

Shaun Rooney was sent off in the first half against Sheffield Wednesday. The former Saints player was involved in a touchline incident with Sheffield Wednesday boss Darren Moore. He needed to be escorted to the tunnel after the incident, as the video footage showed. It was a bizarre moment, as Scott Brown was astonished by the former St Johnstone defender’s behaviour.

Shaun Rooney’s departure is a huge blow for the former Saints star, who had been offered a contract extension by the club. But his arrival at Fleetwood will be a huge boost for the club, as he will be able to play in the English league, where he can help the club gain promotion.
